At the Skipper’s Guide we have noticed a lot of racing is currently taking place with such events as the Route Du Rhum and Velux 5 Oceans. Of course we have the London Olympics in less than two years and our Olympic Sailing Team have been preparing well. Most people who venture out to sea will invariably get involved in some kind of informal sailing race, such as when you pull alongside a similar boat and notice the slight eye contact and secret ‘pulling in’ of sails as they try to keep up or protect their course. At the Skipper’s Guide we believe that most of these events end up in silent outcomes or occasionally the odd ‘wave or gesture’ ! But all people who venture out to sea are competitive as they are invariably testing their skills against the elements.
